Sixty Four players competed in the 2009 Columbia Open with Timur Aliyev taking top honors and posting a perfect 5-0 score! Kevin Kane and
Patrick McCartney tied for second while Cheng Chu took top U2000 honors as twenty players competed in the Open Section.

Ian Morton took clear first in the Amateur Section which drew twenty one players. Derek Zhang took clear second as Bill Taylor, Bob Halliday, Britney
Dewitt and Erik Murrah all tied for third. Brittany Dewitt and Erik Murrah tied as top U1600 players.

Three way tie for first in the twenty one player Reserve Section as Chris Labrecque,  Charlie Lamarche and Mike Meekins all finished with 4 points.
Dan Smith and Craig Patton tied for the U1200 prize and Ben Caiello was the Top Finishing Jr.

Four states were represented as players from NC, GA & VA invaded South Carolina. The tournament was mentioned in The State newspaper in an
article covering the lifesize chess pieces that were on display over the weekend. Check out
